After Manchester United's shock slip up against Wigan Athletic and Manchester city's rampant 4-0 win against West Bromwich Albion it now looks like the title race will now go down the clash at the Etihad on the 30th of April as was predicted.Maybe certain players in Man united's squad thought the title was already at Old Trafford as they certainly didn't turn up against Wigan on Wednesday. Manchester United started well against Wigan,but had no cutting edge up front and only produced a few tame chances and were luck not to go behind in the first half when Wigan had a good goal chalked off from a corner as Victor moses headed in as the referee gave a foul for Caldwell blocking off De Gea in goal.United only had notable effort of the half as Wayne Rooney had a shot 25 yards fizzing past the post. In the second half Wigan scored a goal form a corner which shouldn't have been given as replays show the ball came off the wigan player lasts, and from the corner Wigan took short Shaun Maloney dribbled the ball to the edge of the box and curled a wonderful shot past De Gea.Man united then started to pile on the pressure with Giggs and Rooney both coming close and then Alex Ferguson made a surprising change bringing on Nani and taking off Wayne Rooney who has been in great form laetly. Then in the 72nd had a penalty claim turned down which looked stone wall as Maynor Figueroa blocked Phil Jones' cross with arm.While man united were desperately looking for an equaliser Wigan counter attacked and Moses had a great chance to wrap it up in the 82nd minuted but narrowly deflected wide.Man united's last real chance came in the 88th minute when carrick shot over the bar, this is a big scalp for wigan in their hope of escaping the drop.
Afterwards alez ferguson said "Referee Phil Dowd had a disappointing night, he never got to grips with it," said the United manager."That doesn't subtract from the fact we were poor. We only had one shot on target and were second to every ball."
